| With the circular needle, loosely cast
on 88 stitches, place marker, and join being
careful not to twist the stitches. Knit for
4 inches.
Decrease as follows, changing to double
pointed needles when needed:
Round 1: (knit 9, k2tog) around.
Round 2: knit.
Round 3: (knit 8, k2tog) around.
Round 4: knit.
Round 5: (knit 7, k2tog) around.
Round 6: knit.
Round 7: (knit 6, k2tog) around.
Round 8: knit.
Round 9: (knit 5, k2tog) around.
Round 10: knit.
Round 11: (knit 4, k2tog) around.
Round 12: knit.

Round 13: (knit 3, k2tog) around.
Round 14: knit.
Round 15: (knit 2, k2tog) around.
Round 16: (knit 1, k2tog) around.
Round 17: (k2tog) around.
Cut the yarn leaving a 12" tail, thread
it through the remaining stitches, draw
up tightly, and weave in the ends.
Brim: with right side facing,
pick up 88 stitches around bottom of hat.
Round 1: knit.
Round 2: (k3, knit into front and back of
next stitch to increase 1), repeat around.
(110 stitches).
Round 3-5: knit.
Round 6: (k4, knit into front and back of
next stitch to increase 1), repeat around.
(132 stitches).
Round 7-9: knit.
Round 10: purl.
Round 11: knit.
Round 12: purl.
Round 13: bind off in knitting.
Weave in ends.

size 7, set of double pointed needles
size 5, 6, or 7, and 1 stitch marker.
Use different sized needles if needed
to yield the desired gauge.
